Tata Steel was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding over 2 per cent, followed by Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, SBI, Kotak Bank and Dr Reddy's. NSE Nifty dropped 151.75 points to 15,727.90.
The 30-share Sensex ended lower by 61 points at 29,122 mark and the 50-share Nifty slipped by 12 points to close at 8,797.
Gains were led by index heavyweights Reliance Industries and Infosys.

Interest rate sensitive stocks gain ground post decision
IndusInd Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying around 7 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank. On the other hand, RIL was the top laggard, crashing over 8 per cent. HCL Tech, TCS, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, Maruti and UltraTech Cement also ended in the red.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Bharti Airtel, SBI, Tata Steel, Vedanta, NTPC, HDFC Bank, HCL Tech, ONGC, ICICI Bank and L&T, which rose up to 2.97 per cent.
TCS, Infosys and Wipro were down 0.4-2% each. Capital goods majors also ended lower with L&T and BHEL down 1.4-3.9% each.
Participants are keenly awaiting the rollovers to the next series ahead of the expiry of June F&O.
